Sprint Smartphone Plans – Oppo has announced completing the 5G connection using mobile devices in Australia, with Chinese technology companies saying this will provide a foundation for the commercial launch of the 5G smartphone in 2019. Oppo said it aims to be the first company to release 5G smartphones.
“This latest test by the Oppo Research Institute is an important milestone in helping companies achieve their goals,” Oppo said. “A 5G internet connection is performed on a commercially available 5G smartphone, developed on the basis of the Oppo R15. It is adapted to 5G integrated components, including system boards, RF, RFFE, and antennas.”

Oppo told ZDNet that the test was conducted at his Research Institute in the 5G communication protocol laboratory environment.
The company also “actively explores” 5G use cases across virtual reality, shopping augmented reality, 3D video calls, and online gaming, he said.
“5G technology has been discussed among consumers for several years and we hope to bring new technology to the Australian coast. This is the first step in realizing the reality of 5G,” added Australian MD Oppo Michael Tran.
During the 2018 Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona earlier this year, ZTE also said it would launch the 5G device by the end of 2018 or early 2019, with smartphones, tablets and customer equipment (CPE) already under development.
“Ready for commercialization, ZTE’s 5G solution will be launched soon,” the company said in February.
“As a pioneer in the 5G era, ZTE has made the launch of its 5G solution a core goal.”
Also working on the 5G phone for 2019 is LG, which announced in August that it aims to provide smartphones with Sprint after the launch of the US operator’s 5G network early next year.
Sprint and LG say they will have more information about device specifications and the exact time of launch later.
“LG has done an extraordinary job developing technical designs that allowed us to be one of the first movers on 5G phones,” Sprint CTO Dr. John Saw said in August.
“Today’s announcement brings us a step closer to putting a beautifully designed 5G smartphone in the hands of our customers.”
Meanwhile, Oppo also made the world’s first cellphone with 10GB of RAM. The new Oppo Find X model will also be equipped with 256GB of storage.
Oppo is the fifth largest smartphone brand in the world with shipping, behind Samsung, Huawei, Apple and Xiaomi, according to IDC.
