Sony Smartphone Attachable Lens-Style Camera – Earlier today, after weeks of rumors and leaks, Sony finally announced the ‘lens camera’ that we heard so much. No need to parse rumors and speculate about what is true and what is fiction, QX10 cameras and QX10 cameras that can be attached to official smartphones here.
If you did not follow our coverage beforehand, the general picture might be in order. Sony’s ‘camera lens’ as it has been called, consists of a digital camera that is packed inside the lens. The lens not only contains glass, but also the sensors, processor, microSD slot and wireless capabilities needed to make the camera recorded.

They are intended to work with the PlayMemories Application from Sony on either Android or iOS smartphones, using smartphones as LCD screens and controllers, while “lens-style cameras” carry heavy lifting of hardware.
Today, Sony officially debuted two models: the larger QX100, and the more affordable QX10.
QX100 is a “premium, big sensor” model from both. Inside, you will find the same 20.2MP 1-inch high-end sensor that you find on Sony’s RX100 II compact camera. On the glass side, the QX100 features the Carl Zeiss® Vario-Sonnar T * f / 1.8-4.9 lens that offers 3.6x optical zoom.
In addition to the larger sensor and wider aperture, what distinguishes the QX100 from its sibling is the manual control ring on the front, which allows you to adjust focus or zoom.
Like its siblings, the QX100 will work with a new version of Sony’s PlayMemories Application, allowing you to make call settings using the Automatic Program, Aperture Priority, Smart Automatic, Superior Auto, and others.
QX10 is cheaper, more consumer friendly than both. Although the 18.2MP 1 / 2.3-inch sensor inside is not as strong or as large as the QX100 lens, the f / 3.3-5.9 lens offers 10x optical zoom so users can get closer to the action without losing quality.
There is no manual focus / zoom ring that will be available on the QX10, but a smaller camera than two cameras with a lens that only weighs 4 oz, making it the most portable choice so far. This will allow the selection of Automatic, Intelligent, and Automatically Featured Programs, although it is not stated to be made of Aperture Priority mode.
Both cameras display SteadyShot Stabilization Optical installed in it, so the photos you take with them can remain shake-free even if you don’t have them. They will connect to your smartphone via WiFi (or one-touch NFC communication on compatible devices, as seen here) and allow you to control most settings from there.
The camera can be mounted physically to your cellphone using an adapter provided, or used separately so you can take photos from an angle that might not be possible.
Both lens-style models will arrive on store shelves later this month. The QX100 is more capable of running $ 500, while the more portable QX10 will only return $ 250. You can pre-order both QX100 and QX10 on B & H Photo by following the appropriate link.
